Memorial Day
Thoughts of soldiers
Who've kept our land free
Barbecue
Family
Friends
Horseshoes
Sandbox
Laughter
Love
Sunshine
My day was filled
With all of these
On this Memorial Day
Then, driving home
Suddenly
Without warning
It hit me
Out of the darkness
Out of the fog
It hit me
It hit me hard
Cars
Kids
Silence
Pain
Sorrow
Candlelight vigil
A sight to behold
Before me
As I rounded the corner
A corner that held disaster
For the family and friends
Of a carefree teenager
Returning from
A wonderful
Memorial Day
Celebration
Never to celebrate again
Lost and mourned
Forever after
I thank God
For my son
Who's birthday
We celebrated
Today
With him
Alive
